This class invites students to explore watercolor techniques that create paintings rich with vibrancy, depth, and expression. This class focuses on the thoughtful use of color, composition, and light to energize a painting and bring it to life on the page. Through guided exercises, students will examine how color relationships, value contrast, and intentional layering work together to create visual movement and emotional impact. Students will practice watercolor methods for planning and building luminous color through transparent washes, color temperature shifts, and selective use of texture and saturation to strengthen focal areas. Special techniques for achieving clarity, intensity, and freshness in watercolor will be introduced, along with strategies for preserving light and avoiding muddy color. The course will begin with all students working from the same reference image, then progress to developing personal compositions that apply these techniques to create vibrant, compelling paintings. Open to students of all skill levels and experience.
