Cultivated in gardens since 300 BC, daffodils boast many colors, shapes, sizes and have long been an inspiration to gardeners, botanists and artists! Now, it’s your turn to create a work of beauty using the combined effects of watercolor and graphite in this 3-day class. Bring your favorite species and hone your perspective skills as we review the geometry of forms in space. Combine and refine your pencil lines and shapes to compose a final design. Through color mixing exercises you learn the “Color to Value” method. Practice layering and lifting techniques to create delicate textures and translucency. Combine brush and pencil strokes to finalize the details. This surprisingly quick technique will help you to come away with a Spring Floral composition.

Marjorie Leggitt is an award-winning science illustrator based in Bellingham, Washington. Specializing in illustration for professional botanical journals, reference publications and museum exhibits, she also creates art for commercial clients. A self-taught artist, Marjorie began her career dissecting and illustrating Australian land snails at Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History but soon returned to her passion - drawing plants. While illustrating the first of several botanical field guides, she was contracted by the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to develop visual reconstructions of ancient plant life for the Prehistoric Journey permanent exhibit. Most recently, Marjorie acted as lead artist for Flora of North America and Flora of Oklahoma. Marjorie has taught botanical illustration courses through the Denver Botanic Gardens School of Botanical Art and Illustration since 1990. Although “retired” as a full time instructor, she continues to teach her own online and in-person classes
