Learn how to paint the figure, focusing on principles of simple-to-complex. The goal of this workshop is for each student to become more efficient in identifying overall value patterns of the composition and to gain more confidence in mixing flesh tones. In this 5-day intensive figure painting workshop we will be covering drawing, value patterns, and flesh tone color mixing. The workshop will start with a figure drawing refresher followed by a demonstration on measuring, including Classical figure drawing techniques. Finding simple value patterns will be a warm-up for painting. We will be doing a series of small paintings using a three value step scale during the first two days, working from photo references of Old Masters or 19th Century figurative paintings. The final three days we will work on flesh tone color mixing using a Zorn palette and touching on a full color flesh tone palette, as time permits. There will be a set-up provided with a live model, with a set pose for all 3 days.
