Join artist/printmaker extraordinaire, Maria Lily, for this fun adventure into the world of printmaking! The monotype is one-of-a-kind, and one of the simplest and most direct methods of printmaking. Also a brilliant way to create a background for your mixed media artwork. We will begin the class working with dark field monotypes, using fun and creative techniques to remove the dark ground creating the light areas of the print. Students will be encouraged to make intuitive choices and experiment with marks and patterns. Next we will explore the unlimited possibilities working on light field monotypes with watercolors, gouache and gum arabic. This process involves painting on the plate directly and making a print from it. We will also try our hand at trace monotypes which allows students to create a print of a favorite drawing or photo by tracing it onto the plate. AND WE WILL BE USING OUR NEW ETCHING PRESS! You will be so happy with the results!
Please sign up early; class size is limited.
