Expressive Landscapes in Watercolor with Dave Cook (Mondays) (No Class on 9/22; No Class on 10/6)

Join watercolor painter, Dave Cook, in this 6-week class exploring several different approaches to producing compelling and expressive watercolor landscapes. All methods help us discover the unique versatility and beauty of transparent watercolors. We will review the elements of good design that are critical to successful work, and include simple and helpful drawing and painting techniques that will increase self-confidence and produce immediate results. You will learn how to use sketchbooks with value studies and color sketches to help create better paintings, applying the effects of composition, light, atmosphere, color temperature and contrast to express the mood. Instruction will be through group and individual demonstrations. This course is useful to artists at any level, and there will be classroom time for individual painting with positive feedback. Dave Cook, an artist and architect, explores the beauty of the created world through vivid, colorful shape-dominated paintings.  His approach to water media painting is varied and explorative; he paints landscapes often with references to buildings and structures as a natural outgrowth of his architectural background.  HIs cityscapes, portraits and animal paintings are expressive studies with dramatic light interplay.  The techniques he employs are often spontaneous with energy and emotion.  He paints somewhere between realism and abstraction, using water media on paper, often using various textures, strokes and effects.  www.dcookart.com/
