This class will explore soft pastel painting using various techniques such as underpainting, blending, broken color, crosshatching, feathering, scumbling and more. Discussion of composition styles will strengthen the expression of the artwork produced in the class. Students should bring reference pictures of their favorite subject matter best suited for the techniques and composition styles. Abstract or non-representational composition is also welcome. Please sign up early; class size is limited to 12 students.

Pamela Barcita is a watercolor artist, an illustrator, and art teacher who recently moved back to New Mexico after many years living overseas and in other states. Her classes have included Two-Dimensional Design, Illustration, Drawing and Watercolor Painting. Pamela is the illustrator of over 25 children’s books. Pamela earned a Master’s Degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Illustration from Marywood University in Scranton, PA in 1998. She is a member of The New Mexico Watercolor Society and the New Mexico Art League. Pamela’s watercolor paintings won several awards from the Southside Artists Association art shows in 2018-19, ranging from People’s Choice, Third, Second and First Place. And most recently she won Best of Show, New Mexico Watercolor Society, 2024.
