The single most astonishing fact about Chinese Brush Painting is that each brush stroke is a defining move that produces a portion of the painting that is neither improved upon nor corrected. No sketch is prepared and no model is used; the artist paints with rapid, mentally constructed strokes transporting a 'mind image' to paper. Chinese Brush Painting is meant to be more than a representation of an object; it is also a symbolic expression. Rather than looking at the subject as you paint, you bring it forth from your mind and heart.

Ming Franz has taught Chinese Brush painting for 20 years. She was train under the masters of traditional Chinese painting, and attended National Art Institute of Taiwan. She will guide you step-by-step in painting plants, flowers to landscape with layers of mountains, hanging pine trees, waterfalls and many other subjects. A Chinese Brush Painting Class is also in the works for the fall.

"Splash Ink with Watercolor" is a blending of Asian black ink and primary watercolors splashed onto rice paper or wet watercolor paper, adding finishing touches from both Eastern and Western traditions. Blending black ink and watercolors produces an abstract that can be variously interpreted. Often the artist must look at the abstract forms for a while to let the colors speak. The creativity is in the mind of the artist who adds finishing touches using Rocks, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, birds and trees. This innovative style of painting expresses an exceptional and contemporary view of nature.

Ming Franz, a three time national competition winner, her illustrated book and instructional DVD titled " Splash ink with Watercolor" sub. title " Looking East Painting West " was released in August 2007. She will give step-by-step instruction and demonstrations. Students will create their own splash ink paintings in an inspirational setting.
