As part of its focus on arts in the community, the League occasionally
sponsors special events. These events are often free
to the public, or attendance is at a nominal fee.
Exhibitions are frequently held for a period of a month or more.
Master Talks are scheduled periodically with a well-known artist.

Pastel Artist Maggie Price Paints the Landscape
Maggie will demonstrate pastel techniques while painting a landscape subject from start to finish. She will discuss her techniques and encourage questions from the audience. Maggie teaches numerous workshops across the United States and in Europe each year, and this year is offering both a six-week class and a five-day workshop in pastel painting at the League. Her demonstrations and classes are suitable for beginners as well as advanced artists.
Maggie is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of New Mexico (Distinguished Pastelist), and Plein Air Painters of New Mexico; a member of the IAPS Master Circle and the Salmagundi Club of New York City. She is a member of the Board of Directors and the President of the International Association of Pastel Societies, and serves on the advisory boards of The Pastel Journal and The Artist’s Magazine. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Art League.
Maggie was a co-founder and the former editor of The Pastel Journal magazine, and has written over a hundred articles on pastel art and artists. She is the author of Painting with Pastels (North Light, 2007), and Painting Sunlight & Shadow with Pastels (North Light, spring 2011). Two instructional DVDs covering painting with pastels will be released by Artists’ Network in spring 2011.
Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions and is in private collections worldwide. Her paintings have been featured in magazines in the US and Britain, and are included in several books: Pure Color: The Best of Pastel, A Painters Guide to Design and Composition (both North Light Books), and Plein Air New Mexico (Vol. 1 of the Jack Richeson Fine Art Series), as well as in her own books.

Second Thursday Demonstration: Sid Simpson
Sid Simpson is a Signature Member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society. He will demonstrate using casein paint and ink to create an abstract landscape painting. Admission is free and open to the general public.
Sid explores abstract and semi-abstract ways to depict the New Mexico landscape and natural forms. He is primarily an abstract artist, working in a variety of media, including watercolor, acrylic, oil, casein, and mixed media.
