UPCOMING EVENTS

Focus on Food & Flowers in June

Please join the New Mexico Art League in celebrating the beginning of the summer season with an afternoon of art, food and fun for adults and children alike. An exhibition of paintings featurig food and flowers will hang during the month, with proceeds from sales benefiting the League.

The Opening Reception and Food and Flower Festival will be held on Sunday, June 3. Small paintings created and donated by instructors, students, members and supporters of the New Mexico Art League will be available for purchase through a silent auction. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to acquire beautiful paintings by some of New Mexico's finest and emerging artists.

Several artists will paint in the garden outside the League from 3:00-5:30 p.m., and those paintings will be auctioned off between 6:00-7:00 p.m. There will also be a Farmers Market, Flowering Plants, Orchids and Cactus on display and for sale. The auction of flower and food paintings, raffles and live music will round out the day's events.

A special exhibition, “Botanicals,” by artist and NMAL instructor Vasili Katakis will hang through the month.

Check the Events page for more information.

Master Talk by Robert Kuester, July 22

Robert Kuester will demonstrate and discuss his painting at 1:30 p.m. at the James Dwyer Substation, 12700 Montgomery NE (Southeast corner of Montgomery & Landau)

Robert currently lives and paints in New Mexico. He has found subject matter all the way from Taos to Sedona, to the beaches of California, and to Venice, Italy. Both a studio and plein air artist, he paints the landscape, portrait, still life and the figure. As an alla prima painter, Robert loves the beauty to be found in brushwork for its own sake while always arriving at a convincing final image. Rich but naturalistic color remains his major motivation to paint.

For more information, see the MasterTalk page.

Going Places: An Exhibition of Paintings from Other Countries; August, 2012

NMAL instructor Maggie Price and her husband, artist Bill Canright, will exhibit paintings from across Europe, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand during the month of August, 2012. Their travels usually involve teaching painting workshops in these locations, and result in many paintings, both plein air work done on location and studio work created once they return home. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, August 12; further information will be posted on the NMAL Exhibitions page on the web site as it becomes available.

Portrait Month at NMAL, October 2012

The New Mexico Art League will join with the Portrait Society of America in sponsoring a Portrait and Figurative Month at the New Mexico Art League in October of 2012. The Facing the Muse Exhibition will include work in two categories, Aspiring and Professional. For full details, see the Exhibitions page.
