Class Description:

Artist Andres Orlowski's work is rooted in Western Realism and the figure. Metaphors of time, aesthetic trends and human experience and identity are present in his work grounded in the study of light, form and color. The sound depiction of the human figure is a challenge. The course will take students through time-tested approaches to developing visual perception in the study of the human figure.

Working from a model each session (male and female), the course will center on constructing the figure, anatomy, alignment, proportion, sight-size method, shadow shape, blocking in a pose, tone, value, warms and cools, unity, copies from master drawings/ paintings and historical background.

3 drawings from the model will be executed in pencil, charcoal and conte for the figure drawing portion. The painting class will do a monochrome sketch and two paintings during the 8 sessions. Both classes will perform sight-size copies of drawings and the painting group a painting copy.

The course will follow techniques used in French Ateliers of the 19th century and contemporary schools by professional painters in the U.S. and Italy.
