Comics

Explore
the many aspects of the comics creation process, from scripting and
storytelling, to layouts, panel placement and fluidity, thumbnailing,
the basics of creating the finished art, and traditional and nontraditional
format and book design. Along the way, well touch on comics
theory and history. Class participants can produce stories individually
or collaboratively, culminating in a completed mini-comic, ready to
copy and distribute to shops. The class will be taught by members
of 7000 BC, a New Mexico-based comics
collective.

About
the instructors:
7000
BC is a Northern New Mexico-based nonprofit organization providing
opportunities for comics writers and artists to develop their personal
styles and storytelling voices, while promoting an understanding
of the cultural significance of comic art. 7000 BC publishes string,
a regular anthology showcasing members work at shops and events
around the country. This workshop will be taught by 7000 BC members
Peter Ziomek, who produce the all-ages underground hip-hop comic
Fakin the Funk, and Jeff Benham, who is currently collaborating
on Peoplings, a graphic novel exploring autism.
