Creating Comics
7000 BC members Peter Ziomek and Jeff Benham
with guest demonstrations by Paul Ziomek

Ages 13 and up.
Workshops for all ages will be scheduled in 2009. Please check back for dates.

Explore the many aspects of the comics creation process, from scripting and storytelling, to layouts, panel placement and fluidity, thumbnailing, the basics of creating the finished art, and traditional and nontraditional format and book design. Along the way, we’ll touch on comics theory and history. Class participants can produce stories individually or collaboratively, culminating in a completed mini-comic, ready to copy and distribute to shops. The class will be taught by members of 7000 BC, a New Mexico-based comics
collective.

About the instructors:

7000 BC is a Northern New Mexico-based nonprofit organization providing opportunities for comics writers and artists to develop their personal styles and storytelling “voices,” while promoting an understanding of the cultural significance of comic art. 7000 BC publishes string, a regular anthology showcasing members’ work at shops and events around the country. This workshop will be taught by 7000 BC members Peter Ziomek, who produce the all-ages underground hip-hop comic Fakin’ the Funk, and Jeff Benham, who is currently collaborating
on Peoplings, a graphic novel exploring autism.
