Come and enjoy the wonderful world of pastels with Ke’vin W. Bowers during this class you will learn to use your own photographs and make vibrant strong pictures. You will learn composition, color and values. As well as how to not make messes. There will be critiques at the end of each painting. So get ready to get your hands dirty.

Purpose of this class

During this class you will learn to use your own photos to do great, fun, pictures using color, values, and other techniques which I have developed over the years.

Some of the things you will learn about are:

  • Color
  • Values
  • Techniques that save time
  • Handling of finished work
  • Set up and break down studio practices
  • Composition and layout
  • Making your own paper using color fix primer
  • Textural effects
  • How not to be messy
  • How pastels are made
  • How to evaluate your work
  • you will learn to be fast, clean and to have fun.

Week One

  • Prepping paper using Art spectrum color fix primer and pumas
  • Transfer out the picture
  • Set up easels and trays
  • Demo first picture
  • Students start first picture working warm tones
  • Finish first picture
  • Critique
  • Show how to protect finished painting

Week Two

  • Demo Second image
  • Transfer second picture
  • Work on second picture done in cool tones
  • Critique work
  • Clean up work areas and room

Week Three

  • Demo using combined palate of warm and cool colors
  • Transfer down third image
  • Work on third image with combined pallet
  • Discuss images for next four weeks
  • Critique

Week Four

  • Transfer fourth picture
  • Work on fourth picture
  • Critique work
  • Clean up work areas and room

Week Five

  • Work on picture that is solely the students
  • Show how to get good composition and make things interesting
  • Make things simplified

Week Six

  • Continue working on self projects
  • Combine all things learned using composition, layout
  • Work must be finished before end of class

Week Seven

  • Start next on students own work using all thus far

Week Eight

Finish current work and Be prepared to either to take another session or be ready to start working on and in your own studio
